Football, also known as soccer in some countries, is a popular sport played worldwide. It is a team sport in which two teams of 11 players each compete against each other to score goals. The objective of the game is to move the ball into the opponent's goal using any part of the body except the arms and hands (with some exceptions for the goalkeeper).

Football is played on a rectangular field called a pitch or field, with goals at each end. The team that scores the most goals within the allotted time wins the game. If the scores are tied at the end of the stipulated time, the match may result in a draw, or in certain cases, extra time or a penalty shootout may be used to determine the winner.

The game involves various skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending. Players use their feet, head, or other parts of their body to control and move the ball. The game requires teamwork, strategy, and individual skill to be successful.

Football is governed internationally by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), and each country usually has its own governing body responsible for organizing and overseeing the sport at the national level. The sport has a massive following and is known for its passionate fans, competitive leagues, and prestigious tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup and UEFA Champions League.
